One more set of helping hands in Brainerd Lakes Sertoma.

Thursday, September 17th, 2009

ServiceClubPinPhotoAs someone who rarely volunteers or joins in anything, I’m looking at Sertoma as a chance to expand as a person. Some of us have a lot more room to grow than others. It is good to see a lot of friendly faces. I recognize a lot of contacts from work, BNI Leaders of the Lakes, or church in the Sertoma meetings.

I’m glad I got my member pin this week. Aaron has been lording his Brainerd Lakes Rotary pin over us. So I’m happy to have the playing field evened again!

The theories, ideas, and motivation behind our new blog.

Wednesday, September 16th, 2009

This blog is all about sharing.
Sharing in terms of social media and blogging refers to the extent to which information (stories, ideas, photos, videos, etc) is transferable between social media spheres, also known as contact spheres. Through our new blog design we have strived to make our corporate culture shareable. Within one click of the mouse readers of our blog will have the ability to link our story to their facebook news feed, their twitter update, eMail it to a friend, subscribe via an RSS feed, or leave their reaction as a comment.

Another important aspect of our online identity was to merge all of our social media communities together within one site, our blog. The blog serves as the hub for all of our social media sites we engage within such as twitter, Facebook, YouTube and Linkedin. Again, we wanted to provide our readers the ability to connect with our Facebook page if they have been following us on twitter.

In figure 1.1 you will see the visual diagram depicting how our social media communities funnel readers, clients, and potential clients through our online experience starting within the social media networks, then blog and website, and the eventual eMail or phone call.

100% RedHouse design.
Starting from a simple pencil sketch on a piece of paper to the live site you now are reading, we designed the new blog to maximize our online strategy without using pre-designed templates. We created the blog design to allow us to search engine optimize each post we create, which is important to improving how our friends at Google, Bing, and Yahoo rank our blog and our website.

Another important aspect of this blog was to have the ability to post from remote locations via mobile phones. As events and ideas happen without schedule, it was imperative to allow our creative team access to post updates no matter where they might be.

What’s the point you ask?
The point 4 out of 5 adults are currently on social media sites. And in addition to our person-to-person networking and print campaigns, social media is now a major emphasis of our corporate culture as our target demographic is shopping, researching, and being exposed to brand messages socially online each and every day.

In the upcoming weeks and months we look forward to sharing with you our thoughts, ideas, and projects we have been working on.

Soon to be live on our blog will also be our events calendars where you can keep up to where we are in the community, whether it be speaking at seminar events, attending community functions, or just plain cool stuff to make sure you don’t miss.

The call to action.
If you are in business, and wondering where to start with your social media and website strategy, give us a call at 218-454-3210, ext 1. We’d love to learn more about your business and start moving forward on sharing your information within your circle of influence online.

RedHouseMedia facebook fan appreciation lunch party

Pictured above, left to right: Jeremy, Acala, and Mary. The E Squared Cafe is in the foreground and background.

Today was our inaugural facebook fan appreciation lunch day for RedHouseMedia. A few weeks back after Beth and I enjoyed dinner at the E Squared Cafe here in Brainerd, MN, we posted a free lunch opportunity for the first three facebook friends/fans of RHM who replied “I want free lunch!”

Jeremy replied first, then Mary, and then Acala (All within 15 minutes). All was set in stone which left wrangling our schedules to pick a day that worked for each of us. Today was that day and a good time was had by all during our lunch at the E.

It was fun to bring folks together from different aspects of my life as well.

Jeremy for instance is video mastermind who creates and edits rock solid work for In-Fisherman.

Mary is a teacher, actually she was my digital PrePress instructor back in the design school days. (thank you Mary for putting up with me then.)

Acala is about to be married next weekend, and I have the distinct honor of photographing her wedding. (look for highlights of that event coming up soon.)

Actually this experience makes me consider arranging a Brainerd Lakes Area tweetup, when all the tweeps (twitter users) in the Brainerd Lakes get together for an event and chat in person. A fun idea when so many of us stare at a computer monitor all day long.

Something to ponder for the future?
